Welcome to the German Christmas Museum in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

In our museum in Rothenburg we are proud to be able to show not only unusual and rare Christmas decorations from the 19th and the early 20th centuries but also “favorites” on the Christmas Tree, decorations which may have been in existence for over 100 years but have not lost any of their original popularity. Discover just how exciting and interesting Christmas is!
Be inspired by the historical Christmas tree baubles, splendid nutcrackers, Christmas pyramids from the Erzgebirge and unusual chandeliers. Learn what the difference is between St. Nicholas, the Christ Child and Father Christmas and when the first Advent Calendars, Advent Trees and Advent Wreaths appeared.
We would like to invite you to discover in the following pages our Christmas world of gloss and glitter and learn more about the history and variety of the rare ornaments made of tragacanth, glass, cotton wool and pewter, the delicate web of leonic wires or about the popular wooden incense smoker and much, much more ….
