Deutsches Weihnachtsmuseum - Rothenburg ob der Tauber

On over 250m² (2750 square feet) of space the German Christmas Museum has opened its doors in the autumn of 2000. This is the first permanent exhibition in Germany covering the history of German Christmas traditions. The tour through the museum starts in a room telling about the origin of Christmas church traditions and traditions in the private life. The visitors walk on and will find themselves in the Biedermeier Christmas. The following rooms will give insight on the development of various Christmas decoration types. Here you will find a display of Christmas trees (a German invention) with Christmas ornaments of many different categories of the times between 1820 and 1945. The German Christmas Museum in Rothenburg ob der Tauber feels extremely lucky to be able to show an extraordinary large selection of own exhibits, but also part of a private Austrian collection of Christmas ornaments as well as a private nutcracker collection.
A stroll through the Chrismasmuseum Rothenburg o.d.T. will become an unforgettable Christmasmemory , not only in the year 2000.
